Course Description

FST-101: Fast Often equips students with a biblical understanding of fasting as an essential spiritual discipline for every follower of Jesus Christ. Throughout Scripture, fasting is consistently associated with seeking God, humbling oneself before Him, strengthening one’s relationship with Him, receiving spiritual direction, overcoming temptation, preparing for ministry, and experiencing personal and corporate revival.

This course explores the purpose, principles, and practice of biblical fasting from both the Old and New Testaments. Students will study the examples of Moses, David, Elijah, Esther, Daniel, Jesus, Paul, and the early church to discover how fasting has been used throughout biblical history to seek God’s presence, wisdom, protection, deliverance, and empowerment.

Students will also examine various types of biblical fasts, learn practical guidelines for preparing physically and spiritually for a fast, understand how prayer and fasting work together, and recognize the importance of maintaining a lifestyle of humility, obedience, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.

Through biblical study, personal reflection, guided fasting experiences, prayer exercises, and practical ministry application, students will begin developing fasting as a regular spiritual discipline that prepares them for greater intimacy with God, deeper spiritual maturity, and more effective ministry.
